Nordic Walking Bedford, Luton & Ampthill, Week Starting 4th March 2013
Hello Nordic Walkers,
Great nordic walking last week and was especially impressed with the hill work in Ampthill! (equally impressed with Dhushy’s Orange Drizzle cake afterwards!)
This week I’m hoping for beautiful weather and it’s started out well. I won’t be attending the Thursday Class but please still go and meet your friends and have a good walk.
Monday – 6:30pm – Bramingham Park, Barton Hills, Luton (meet at top of Edgcott Close)
Tuesday – 10am – The Bedford Golf Club, Carnoustie Drive, Great Denham
Thursday – 10am – The Forest Centre, Marston Moretaine
Saturday – 10am – Ampthill Park, Ampthill (Big car park)
One of our walkers Sue, is bringing a selection of home made Jams, Jellies, Marmalade and Honey to the walks this week so bring along some extra pennies in case something takes your fancy.
You can view her yummy offerings on www.thebeesness.co.uk or if you want to email her with any questions her email is bedfordshirehoney@hotmail.co.uk
Look forward to seeing you on the trails!

Hello Nordic
Walkers,
It looks like the forecast for this coming week looks pretty good! With the warmer conditions you may consider wearing lighter jackets and not so many layers as we warm up so quickly during Nordic Walking sometimes that you can easily overheat. Bring water to sip too so you’re keeping hydrated.
This weeks’ walks are as follows:
Monday 6:30pm – Bramingham Park, Barton Hills, Luton (meet at the end of Edgcott Close)
Tuesday 10am – The Bedford Golf Club, Carnoustie Drive, Great Denham (Paws on)
Thursday 10am – Ampthill Park, Ampthill (Big car park)
Saturday 10am – Ampthill Park, Ampthill (Big car park)
Looking forward to some sunshine and great walks with you all!

Nordic Walking Bedford. Just when we were enjoying the spring like conditions and the promise of warmth it brings, BOOM back to snow and slush! I know it’s probably my fault as I have said many times how I love the snow, but seriously, I’m done with it now! This kinda snow anyway…It goes without saying then that proper footwear needs to be worn to help prevent any spills! We’re again limited with where we can walk due to flooding etc so we’ll be sticking to our regular haunts this week.
Of course, with the temperature dropping after dark, it will be worse on the pavements as it gets icy so again I’ll have to cancel tonights walk in Barton Hills.
Hopefully, Nordic Walking Bedford will still be on
Thursday 10am – The Forest Centre, Marston Moretaine, Nordic Walking Bedford
Saturday 10am – Ampthill Park, Big Car Park
I know you’re all a hardy bunch so I’ll look forward to seeing you on the trails!
Cheers,
Elaine

Nordic Walking In Bedford, Luton & Ampthill – Week Starting 21st January 2013
Hi Nordic Walkers,
This week’s walks are of course dependent on our great British weather and though walking in the snow is awesome, getting to venues can prove hazardous so please, please be careful.
We are looking at more snow this week and I will be sending out an email by 9am Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to update, whether we will cancel or not.
As things stand Monday evening again will be cancelled as the pavements are too dangerous to walk on. The rest of the week will be as normal unless I email you all before 9am on the morning of the walks. Please bring suitable footwear, light gloves and layered clothing.
Tuesday – 10am – The Forest Centre, Marston Moretaine
Thursday – 10am – Ampthill Park, Ampthill (be extra careful in the car park, if worries you can park in the lay by’s by the Rugby club and walk back)
Saturday – 10am – Ampthill Park, Ampthill (as above)
I must just mention the amazing effort both David (Wootton) and Sue put in on Thursday. We walked Great Denham and kept up an amazing pace for over an hour. Thanks to all of you for coming last week and always working so hard, it’s so enjoyable marching around the countryside with such a great bunch!
Happy trails,
Elaine
It’s Snowing!
Hi Again Everyone,
So I’m super excited we have snow! The only problem is my Luton class can’t go ahead if it’s icy/slippy as we walk on pavement and the risk of you or the poles slipping is too high. If it was a day class we could go into the park and walk but as its at night we are restricted to the streets because of the lighting.
Saying that all my other open classes can go ahead as we can walk in the parks and it is such a blast to nordic walk in the snow! We had one class before Christmas that was in the snow and it was hilarious, a tough work out definitely, but great fun! I suggest warm socks, ankle boots or gators if you have them.
I will be over in Luton this afternoon to check out the conditions and will make a decision at 5pm as to whether to go ahead with the Bramingham class. I’ll text all my regulars of my decision then.
So lets have alot of fun and at the same time a fab workout too! Finally, people won’t be able to say “Where’s the Snow?!” to us as we pass, instead will be green with envy and wanting our poles!
See you on the slopes!!

A time for resolutions…..I find most resolutions go in one year and out the other! Last year I witnessed so many of you make marked improvements in your fitness levels.
It makes my job so rewarding as I’ve mentioned before and this year I hope you will continue towards a healthier and happier life through Nordic Walking! Not only for the physical benefits it gives you but the benefits of well being, which is gifted to us by nature…..being outdoors and with likeminded people to talk with makes our classes so much fun and enjoyable that it hardly seems like a workout!
I have four more beginners courses starting in February and I would be most grateful if you could tell your friends, family and work colleagues about it as the more people Nordic Walking, the better! The courses are as follows:
Thursday – February 14th – 11:30am – The Forest Centre, Marston Moretaine
Thursday – February 14th – 1:30pm – Bramingham Park, Edgcott Close, Barton Springs, Luton
Saturday – February 16th – 11:30am – Ampthill Park, Ampthill
